Cascara Sagrada®
Cascara sagrada (Rhamnus purshiana) is native to Central America, the Caribbean, and parts of northern South America. The name “Cascara Sagrada” translates to “sacred bark” in Spanish. It is known for its natural laxative properties, which help to increase bowel movements, expel waste from the colon, and eliminate parasites. It aids in combating chronic skin, bladder, bowel, and vaginal infections. It helps to clear constipation and supports liver function. Its powerful antioxidants help to clean the blood and neutralise free radicals in the body, which play a role in cellular ageing and inflammation. It is also known to eliminate E. coli, helicobacter pylori, candida, gallstones, cysts, and haemorrhoids.
The use of cascara sagrada can turn your urine yellow because some components of this plant are eliminated through urination. This is normal and does not pose any danger. You may also experience abdominal cramping, gripping pain, nausea, and sometimes diarrhoea, which can lead to dehydration. Be sure to drink at least 1.5 litres of spring water everyday. Drink for a maximum of 2 weeks, followed by a 2 week break.
How to use: Add 1 Tablespoon to 2 cups of boiled spring water and leave it to steep for 15 mins. Strain it and drink half a cup in the AM and half a cup in the PM.
